I am excited to be offering this trip again in 2024! This trip is perfect for someone with limited time or budget but wants to photograph bears and glaciers in Alaska! We pack a lot into a few days. Great bear and glacier photography. This trip will include two full days at Anan, which is such a fantastic bear viewing location.  The trip is timed to coincide with the salmon run, so lots of opportunities for photographing fishing black and brown bears.  Plus a full day to LeConte Glacier which is possibly the most active tidewater glacier in Alaska. Finally, a trip up the Stikine River with a visit to Shakes Glacier and the wildflowers along the lake. If you are wanting a longer trip we will be happy to suggest and help you plan additional days in Alaska. Trip is limited to 6 people.

The Tour

This tour will begin and end in the wonderful Southeast Alaska community of Wrangell – offering daily jet service via Alaska Airlines. Your adventure will begin with a welcome dinner in Wrangell the evening of July 30, 2025. The welcome dinner is included in your tour package.

The highlight of this photo tour will be the two days spent photographing the abundant black and brown bears at Anan Wildlife Observatory. Home to one of Alaska's largest pink salmon runs, Anan attracts a large number of both black and brown bears, as well as tons of bald eagles, seals and other wildlife. Anan is one of Ron's favorite places to photograph bears in Alaska thanks to its amazing scenery. Anan Creek is surrounded by beautiful old-growth forest. We will travel by boat to photograph Anan bears from a Forest Service wildlife viewing platform. The platform is a short, half-mile walk from the beach.

Another highlight of this photo tour will be a day spent exploring one of the Inside Passage’s best kept secrets, LeConte Glacier. As we travel into the fjord where LeConte Glacier resides we will be surrounded by snow-capped mountains and unbelievable waterfalls. This glacier is extremely active, producing massive amounts of icebergs. You will be mezmerized as you listen to and watch thousands of year old ice break away and crash into the sea. Photographing seals, glacier calving events and stunning glacier blue icebergs will keep us busy all day.

We will spend one day traveling up the Stikine River, one of the last great wilderness areas remaining in North America. Surrounded by rugged and spectacular beauty our guide, a local, fourth generation Alaskan, will lead us off the beaten path to hidden secrets of vast untouched wilderness.

The outfitter we are using in Wrangell is a long time family run operation. Ron has gotten to know them over the years through his visits to the area. Not only are they great folks, but they spend much more time at places like Anan than do the other operators in the area. Each of our four day trips will be full days.

Each day we will return to our comfortable oceanfront lodging in Wrangell.
